The other day I asked, “What are your paleo resolutions for 2012?” so I decided to put together a few of my own and share them with my followers/readers.

The word resolution can mean many things to different people and, often times, it can scare people into doing nothing at all. However, I’m pretty good at sticking to goals that relate to something that I’m passionate about so I’ll use these as a baseline for the upcoming year.

Here they are:

  • Completely black out our bedroom: I’m serious about getting a good night’s sleep especially since it’s so important to paleo living. I need to find a practical way to black out our windows so I can sleep in total darkness.
  • Work on better sleep cycles: It’s interesting to watch my sleep cycles now that I’ve been tracking them using my Jawbone UP. I’d like to figure out how to get more deep sleep cycles - not sure how - maybe look into take a magnesium supplement at night. More research to be done.
  • Replace a couple pairs of shoes with barefoot friendly models: Not much of an actual resolution but this, to me, makes good sense for my posture and for the health of my feet, my legs, and my back.
  • Get our girls some barefoot shoes for the summer: The same benefits barefoot shoes would give me would also benefit my girls. Their little feet were perfect when they were born and I want to keep them healthy as they grow up.
  • Try to grow the Memphis Paleo group on Facebook: The Paleo Memphis meet-up group is already up to 7 people and hopefully that trend will continue. I don’t want to take up too much or people’s time but I’d like to have at least monthly meetings starting some time this summer.
  • Better barefoot running technique: I’m not really a runner but I’d like to do a little more barefoot running and, while I’m at it, develop better technique. I was born with dislocated hips and, since barefoot running is much lower impact than traditional running, I want to make sure I’m doing it right.
  • Take advantage of the sunlight more often: Simple, just get outdoors more often. I’m a cubicle rat so I need to be more conscious about getting outside, even if it’s for only 5-10 minutes as often as possible. This is very important during the short, Fall and Winter days.
  • Try more recipes so my family and I can eat better: This almost goes with out saying but, if I don’t try to push my family down the paleo path, then no one will.
  • Read more: This one’s not necessarily paleo related but it’s something that I hope will get me off the computer earlier at night and help with my sleep cycles. Plus, there’s some great paleo recipe books, barefoot running books, and other books I’d like to read.

I hope everyone’s 2012 is off to a good start and I’ll keep you informed on my progress in the coming months.
