If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time you know that I’m a bit obsessed with getting a good night’s sleep. I’ve talked about the importance of sleep as being the cornerstone to paleo living and, as part of my 2012 resolutions, I wanted to really back out our bedroom.

I found myself at Hancock Fabrics off of Qunice Road (in Memphis) because I needed something to repair some work slacks. While I was there I decided to look around and see if they had real blackout fabric.

Not really knowing what to look for, I was drawn to all the black colored fabrics - made sense to me that blackout fabric would be black right? Well, a nice lady told me where to find it and, low and behold, it was white. Now you know!

Anyway, at Hancock it was about $8.99/yard and it took about 2 yards to cover one window. The windows in our bedroom are really tall so 2 yards might be enough to cover two smaller windows. I have a similar set up on the other window but it’s not nearly as clean as you see here. It involves clamps and a garbage bag.

I then went to Target and picked up some small, clear Command Mini Hooks and some very basic curtain clips. I installed the hooks, slightly modified the curtain clips, and ended up with what you see here. I need to move the hooks up to the very top of the window moulding to cut off the small light leak at the top.

I’m very happy with the set up because, after I turn off the lights, the room is about >= 95% dark and the brightest thing in the room are the LEDs on the TV and on the Uverse box. Now I just need to get some more fabric for the other window and I’ll be all set.
